Duo Ruut brings together Estonian musicians and songwriters Ann-Lisett Rebane and Katariina Kivi. Sharing a single Estonian zither, they weave two voices and inventive playing into contemporary music rooted in folk tradition. They draw influence from both the beliefs of different cultures and their own emotive songwriting.
Composing on one instrument Duo Ruut’s music is minimalist yet packed with new and imaginative ideas. Their unique sound and distinctive approach has taken them to audiences around the world, including performances at Glastonbury, WOMADelaide, Womex, Celtic Connections, Elbphilharmonie, etc.
Their album “Ilmateade” reached the TOP 100 albums of the year in All Music 2025 beside Bad Bunny, Lady Gaga, Deftones, and others. “Ilmateade” is also in their TOP 25 folk music albums of 2025. Duo Ruut was awarded as the Artist of the Year by Estonian Ethno Music Awards 2025. During the last couple of years they have toured 20+ countries around the world.
